Which roof to choose for an industrial building

Choosing the roof of a prefabricated industrial building is a key point for the right choice for each case. Each type of material and design has its own characteristics and advantages that make it ideal for each type of use and location.

Table of contents

At VALL we have a wide range of steel and aluminium canopies for removable industrial buildings. We advise our customers on the right choice for their interests.

To give you a better idea of our range of prefabricated building enclosures. And for which cases they are particularly suitable. However, you should only see this as a guideline with examples, as we cannot name all the types of uses and locations for which they are suitable. We therefore recommend that you contact us for a quotation and advice.

Which flexible roof to choose for a removable industrial building?

Translucent textile tarpaulins without insulation

It is a simple option that allows quick and easy installation and provides effective results. Its main advantage is that the translucent textile fibre allows sunlight to pass through, which means that the space under the roof is brighter during the day. And it improves the energy efficiency of the space. This makes it an excellent choice for any location and use where it is important to take advantage of sunlight.

If you are interested in saving energy, it is a very good option for uses in which specific artificial light is not necessary except during hours or days when there is little or no outdoor lighting. For example, to house construction machinery or construction material, to carry out certain industrial processes inside or to house exhibition and sales spaces, among other uses.

In addition, it is highly wind-resistant and has a long service life. In our steel and aluminium industrial halls, we use it with a grammage of 650 g/m2.

Opaque textile tarpaulin without insulation

It retains the good wind resistance and durability of a quality textile fabric, but in this case it keeps out the sunlight. This makes it possible to enjoy a cooler interior space in summer.

This makes it ideal for southern locations, sunny environments, south-facing or geographic areas with hot summers, where this factor is important. For example for industrial, exhibition and retail use, as it helps to maintain a comfortable indoor working temperature with lower energy consumption. Or for storage or logistics use, keeping the products in it at a cooler temperature on hot days.

In our solutions we use a tarpaulin with a grammage of 850 g/m2.

Tarpaulin with TWS system

The TWS or Thermo Wind Safe system consists of two sheets of tarpaulin that create an airtight air chamber. This feature provides a high level of thermal insulation and stabilisation of the structure. This makes it ideal both for applications where maintaining a certain indoor temperature is important and for locations with a harsher climate, with cold winters and/or hot summers.

It is available in translucent or opaque fabric, to choose the one that helps to maintain better energy efficiency in each location.

This type of industrial building enclosure is especially recommended for large-format lightweight structures located in windy areas. And to locate in those geographical areas where the presence of snow is not uncommon, as it supports both types of loads very well.

Which rigid roofs to choose for a demountable industrial building?

Rigid roof made of sandwich panel

It consists of two metallic faces and has a rigid insulating core that gives it a high insulating power. Its watertight joints are tongue and groove, thus guaranteeing the total watertightness of the roof.

This makes it ideal for uses where watertightness is particularly important. For example, for storing raw materials for the food industry or for the storage and logistics of sensitive materials and precision electronic products, among others. This keeps them safe from moisture, rain or snow.

Rigid roof made of metal sheet

Made from a ribbed profile of high-quality sheet steel that has been cold-formed. It is a good choice for logistics and industrial use. Its aesthetics, although simple, is solid and resistant, something to take into account for uses in which image is as important as functionality, for example at a commercial level.

Rigid roof of simple sheet with anti-condensation sheet

The anti-condensation foil is a textile foil located in the bottom layer of the ribbed profile made of high-quality steel sheet. This layer absorbs the condensation generated by the temperature contrast between the upper outer layer and the lower inner layer.

This makes it ideal for storing products such as raw materials or finished products from the food industry. For offices. And for housing industrial processes carried out with precision machines that are sensitive to humidity. Also for foundries and for food processing companies in which processes are carried out with heat, even if the location is in a cold climate zone.
