The 6 technical-sanitary requirements that make the relocatable industrial building the best agro-food warehouse
Food storage facilities are regulated by a strict technical and sanitary standards that regulate both the construction of the space and the way in which it is to be used.
We always follow these requirements scrupulously in VALL, every time we build a dismountable industrial building for this purpose. And after years of building and improving this type of warehouse, we have enough experience to synthesise the 6 technical properties that make our warehouses into efficient, sustainable, regulatory and highly profitable agri-food warehouses:
1. Construction materials
Current regulations stipulate that the materials used for the construction of the warehouses must under no circumstances be susceptible to intoxication or contamination. In addition, they must be waterproof (except when not recommended), resistant, non-absorbent, slip-resistant and non-combustible, easy to clean and disinfect, and must not be deteriorated during the cleaning process.
All the materials we work with (canvas, aluminium, steel) are inert and hygienic, waterproof, highly resistant and can be given specific treatments to reduce their combustibility to a minimum.
2. Separation from the exterior floor
The flooring of the warehouses that communicate directly with the outside must be raised by at least 20 centimetres and, if this is not the case, the continuity with the outside floor must be efficiently interrupted.
Industrial buildings can be built with that required distance or at ground level. In the latter case, all accesses can be complemented with barrier elements that protect the interior of the building.
3. Absence of gaps
There should be no gaps in walls or ceilings where animals can nest, and if lighting and ventilation systems are installed, they should not be susceptible to the accumulation of dirt and dust.
In this respect, the structural simplicity of the removable industrial building generates very few nooks and crannies that can become points of dirt and infestation, provided that adequate cleaning is maintained.
In addition, VALL’s translucent roofs allow sufficient natural light to pass through to work without the need for artificial light. And the ventilation systems, when required, are installed outside the buildings, so that they can be cleaned and disinfected without affecting the internal space.
4. Dimensions appropriate to each case
The warehouses should be of sufficient size for the intended use, without accumulating excess stored product or creating difficulties for handling by personnel.
Our warehouses can have all the meters needed for each type of food product. Moreover, they do not need intermediate pillars to support the structure, which allows total freedom of movement and organization, within a completely open space, without barriers or obstacles.
5. Regulatory loading docks
Loading docks, when they exist, should be paved, avoid flooding and have the proper slope for the water flow. In some cases, the wheels of vehicles and the soles of operators’ shoes may need to be fitted with disinfectant.

6. Food preservation
Based on the food product being stored, the warehouse must maintain the appropriate temperature and relative humidity, as well as adequate air circulation, to avoid alterations that could be harmful to the food. It must also protect the products from the direct action of sunlight and air currents.
Both the composition of the materials we use at VALL, and the way we assemble the pieces, guarantee a high level of insulation and watertightness, which allows the appropriate control of the internal environment of the warehouse.
